An Updated Kitchen and Powder Room in West Chester

The owners of this classic home in West Chester were torn between staying in their house on an expansive lot where they raised their three boys, or moving to a retirement community. They reached out to designer Marie Weaverling for a consultation.

Together, Marie and Miller Residential made a few impactful changes to update the look of the kitchen and powder room. The cabinets were in great condition, so they decided to keep them and update the rest of the kitchen, including the sink area.

BEFORE

Miller replaced the countertops with white quartz veined in light gold, updated the backsplash to a light cream subway tile, replaced appliances, changed the ceiling lighting and recessed lights, and updated the cabinet hardware to larger brass pulls.

A kitchen island had a wide apron front with a wall behind it, which meant family members couldn’t pass behind it. Marie changed the island to make the counters smaller and found stools that took up less space for a better flow and layout.

In the powder room, Marie found a new countertop and fixtures to match the black and tan motif. Shiplap siding and elephant hooks with a shelf offer much-needed storage for shoes and coats. A framed photo of an elephant paw from a trip to Africa anchors the room.

The homeowners were so happy with the new kitchen and powder room that they’ve decided to stay another 25 years in their home!
